Have You Accessorized Your PSP?
So we all know by now what the PSP is and what it is capable of, but some owners still don’t quite know what is available to them in terms of accessorizing their PSP. You can do a good number of things with your PSP just as it comes in the original box, but take full advantage of what is available at almost every electronics retailer in the world and accessorize! The following is a few quick items that you will need in addition to what comes in your original PSP box:
* You do not want to be caught with your PSP and no memory card to backup your progress in a game or save a music or video file to your device. Some memory cards come with as little as 32MB while others will ring in with a few GB, meaning you can play and play with little worries. Trust the hardcore gamers on this one; don’t be without a memory card!
* Don’t even let yourself be disappointed, go ahead and invest in some speakers before you get started with your PSP. If viewing movies, listening to music, or playing games with important music makes a difference to you then don’t even listen to the factory speakers, they will only disappoint. Some sets can be purchased that hook right to the top of the device without ruining any of the “portable†experience.
* Do yourself a favor and get a screen “skin†to protect your video screen from all of the potential scratches and stains it could face with a regular day’s work. Scratches, stains, and the like will make your PSP look aged before it actually is and ruin your viewing and playing experience before it even gets started.
* Forget about purchasing an extra MP3 player for your musical needs, be that in the car or while walking around the house, the PSP can support all the audio files you want and act as whatever you want it to be! Make sure you have the memory cards that were mentioned before and don’t stop downloading until you are personally satisfied with the performance of your PSP overall.

Let’s face it people, if you don’t own a digital music player you are more than a little out of touch with society and popular society in particular. Everyone seems to have their entire music collections stored on a small device that can fit in your pocket, so what are you doing still carrying around your Walkman? If the problem is that you can’t spend any extra in addition to your PlayStation Portable then let me let you in on a little secret that could change your life … the PSP can play MP3s! Follow a few easy steps and you will have your own MP3 player on your PSP in no time!
Â?
- Begin by getting your books of CDs (or in some cases, the sporadically placed cases throughout the house) moved to your computer’s hard drive.Â? This is quite simple if you have Windows Media installed on your computer, just insert the disc into the PC and click on the button that is titled “ripâ€.Â? This puts the tracks on your hard drive and makes it possible for you to move on to the second stage of the transfer process.
- It is very important that you purchase the right USB cable to hook your PSP up to your PC so you can begin to transfer the files from one to the other.Â? Once the cords are connected you only have to click on the “home†and “X†buttons to bring up the option to connect with the “USB Deviceâ€.Â?
- Once you have connected the PSP to the PC then you need to create a file that is named “PSP†within the PSP folder on your computer and begin transferring (or copying and pasting) files to that area. Once you are done all you have to do is press the “O†button to get ready to enjoy all of the music that you transferred.
- Make sure that you have some sort of categorization or sorting process in place so you can tell what you are choosing to liten to when the time comes to do a little easy listening. Does it really get much easier that that?

Wow, that may be the most ridiculous looking title ever, but I do think you get the point, you are about to learn something very important if you are both a Mac owner and a PSP owner. If you are ready to transfer your video of old “Saved by the Bell†episodes from your video library into a file that can be viewed on your PSP, but can only find tutorials on how to do so from a PC then pull up a chair. The following will run you through a few basic steps to get started on transferring your video from your tapes or DVDs to your Mac and eventually your PSP.
1. Do an extensive internet search with the help of your friends at Google and Yahoo to find a free piece of software called DVDBackup. Download this program as it will be the tool you need to get your software from your DVD to your Mac before moving on to the next stage of the process. “Rip†your files (copy them to your Mac) to a specific folder that you will remember and prepare to move on to the next stage of the process.
2. Go back to your search engine buddies and find another piece of software referred to as HandBrake. With HandBrake you will have a program that will be able to transfer your movie file into one place that can then be transferred into the correct form for PSPWare to be able to use. This is kind of a condenser stage as the files you ripped to your computer are being prepped for viewing on your PSP in one neat little file.
3. Once you have ripped the file from your DVD to your Mac, labeled your file, and placed it in a file that you will be able to come back to you are basically ready to view the video on your PSP. Just sync the PSP with your Mac and watch the files fly into place for your viewing pleasure!

Don’t get rid of your PSP simply because you are struggling with the process of converting the video you own or are purchasing into the PSP format. You actually don’t have to buy a whole lot of new software or hardware to make this process happen; just a few simple things could get you in the right direction right away. If you are worried that you won’t understand the tech-nology (get it … that was clever) then you may want to find something that is a little more simplified!

There is no bigger home to video gaming and the edge of the gaming industry than Japan so if you aren’t used to, or are offended by, the Japanese writing you see repeatedly then maybe a PSP isn’t for you. You will see Japanese writing over and over during your trials and tribulations with your PSP, just remember that it will get easier as you go and begin to differentiate between files. Just understand that it will be difficult at first.
Don’t even begin to try this process or mull over the possibilities without having purchased a large memory card that will support the video files that you are looking to view on your PSP. Sometimes the first few times you attempt this process will be tremendously frustrating, so make sure that you don’t compound the problem by not having enough disk space for the file you want to begin with.
Understand that if you haven’t gotten your PSP to support video files just yet that it is possible, this thing is massively popular for a reason! Continue to search around on the internet and understand that you may have to spend a little to further the process. There are no shortage of forums and blogs that discuss these problems in-depth so continue to search for them until you find one that makes the process a little simpler.
Make sure that what you are downloading or the membership sites you may join are adhering to current laws in relation to downloading media files. Nobody needs pointless litigation to solve the downloading of an episode of “Chips†to your PSP!
